Textile designs

A passion for sewing in Nieu Bethesda has found expression in the Arts Centre’s textiles training. Participants are encouraged to think as artists, developing drawing skills and individually designing each piece to express stories and subjects from their own lives.

Impressive achievements include launching our own designer label, Pomegranate, supplying galleries and designer shops in Johannesburg, and taking commissions from around South Africa and the UK.

Pomegranate designs

The people of the Bethesda Arts Centre have successfully launched their own designer label. The range of designs covers quilts, clothing, bags and wall-hangings.

Designs are available in a range of colourways and they are pleased to take commissions. Take a look

Christelene told me about the Arts Centre. I was very interested, and I love to be working here. I love the sewing by hand. The people here are all so nice. I’ve made three bags, one sold, one gone to Johannesburg. I’m making a skirt now – with sweets on it.
