Visual Arts

At the Arts Centre, students undertake training in drawing, printmaking and sculpture with occasional workshops in ceramics and mosaic. Once trained, Centre artists can use the studios and equipment for their own self-directed work, passing on their skills to new students, and exhibiting and selling from the Centre’s gallery.

Teaching at the Arts Centre is carried out by artists from the UK and South Africa who come to the Centre as volunteers, including a visit from legendary South African painter, Cecil Skotnes, who gave the first lino-printing workshop.

Workshops are held in printmaking, drawing, sculpture, ceramics and mosaic.

Ceramics workshop

In May and June 2007, Dumisani Mabeso did a two month residency at the Centre, teaching printmaking and upgrading the studio, as well as training three new young printmakers, who, along with James Haartlief, are making stunning new prints.
