I'm
an old lady, you have to wait now. I have so many things
to say - I must just think what to tell you. To start from
my baby days. My mother died when I was two years old so
I didn't know her. I didn't know my father, so the small
days weren't very happy. This is one part of my life I remember
all the time. There were days when I couldn't say a word,
and that empty feeling is always part of my life.
When
I was eighteen I got married to a policeman and out of the
marriage I got five children. I promised myself I would
give my children all the love I can, so that they wouldn't
have to live the same life I had. Six years after we moved
to Nieu Bethesda my husband died of a heart attack. My youngest
boy was five years old, and I still had two boys at school.
I worked at the Owl House for eleven years, and after that
my story begins - that's where my new life began. I have
worked very hard at many places, but I don't think it made
a difference in my life, because I was doing it just for
the money. In this story a very special thing happened in
my life.
There
was a lady from England who was looking for people from
the township who were interested in art and I went along.
We didn't know what art is. Most of the people said they
are not going to do drawings because they are not kids.
We always thought that artists were white people. When we
started the art class it was a very difficult thing because
we didn't know anything about drawing but the next day we
came back.
We
had that art course for three weeks and after that we began
to see everything in a different way. It was a wonderful
time in our lives. You can say that our eyes were opened.
Now if I look at a tree, I see something in the tree - all
the beauty. If I look at the mountains, I see the beauty
in the mountains, I see every stone. You can't believe it
is like it is. And so it is with everything around me. Life
looks beautiful, and I just feel it is worth it to live.
